Nishantha Ranatunga Now Under Pressure To Step Down From SLC

It is now learnt that Nishantha Ranatunga, General Secretary of SLC, who was criticized in public by Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara at a press conference yesterday, has come under pressure to step down from his position at Sri Lanka Cricket.

Mahela Jayawardena said Ranatunga and the CEO of SLC mishandled the announcement of their retirement and created unwanted pressure on the minds of senior players prior to the T20 World Cup. Kumar Sangakkara, who was sitting alongside him at the press conference, also endorsed Jayawardena's statement about the matter.

The world cup winning cricket team met President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday soon after the press conference.

Nishantha Ranatunga, who is the brother of former Sri Lanka Captain Arjuna Ranatunga, was recently appointed as the Chairman of Mihin Lanka.
