Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the new trend of taking ‘selfies’ while policemen are writing tickets for traffic offenses is actually an advantage for the police.,

He said that the police have not imposed any restriction on people in taking such photos and added that such photos would prove that a ticket has been officially issued by a police officer.

If the offender is taken to courts, the photo could be used against him as evidence, Gunasekara said.

Taking ‘selfies’ when policemen are issuing tickets is a practice that was started a few days ago. A Facebook Page named ‘Dada Selfie’ has been created, apparently by some local youth. Currently this page has nearly 6000 ‘likes.’
