Former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa lashed out at former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga claiming that she determines the individuals who are to be questioned at the police Financial Crimes Investigations Division.

 

In a video released through social media, he is seen commenting on political witch hunting by the present government. Rajapaksa alleged that on the day his brother Basil Rajapaksa was arrested and remanded, the prison knew that he will be brought there while he was still being questioned at the FCID.

 

Gotabaya Rajapaksa also said that despite claims of media freedom and judicial freedom, the government is threatening these institutions in various ways.

 

If such things happened under the past government, international media like BBC, CNN and Al Jazeera would have spoken about them repeatedly and the US Embassy would have released a number of releases, he said. However, they are silent today and nothing is spoken, Rajapaksa added.
