Udayanga Weeratunga Refutes Allegations Against Him

Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga refuted allegations on arms smuggling and the murder of an Embassy employee directed at him.

Releasing a statement, he pointed out that the Ukraine government had not initiated any criminal procedings against him on arms dealing with rebels in Eastern Ukraine. Otherwise, he could not be able to live in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, he stated.

Meanwhile, he categorically rejected allegations on murder of an embassy employee Noel Ranasinghe, adding that he died after a lorry overran him in a tragic accident. Criminal procedings have been initiated against the driver of the lorry, Weeratunga pointed out.

Meanwhile, commenting on his facebook page, Weeratunga described him as a victim of revenge by 'good governance.' He added that he lives a simple life in the former Soviet Union at present.
