Deputy Minister of Social Services, Welfare and Livestock Development Ranjan Ramanayake said that the UNP is delighted over the decision taken by the UPFA to grant nomination to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, Ramanayake said that with Rajapaksa out of the scene, there was no major reason to hit out at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. "There was no one in the opposition that we could accuse" he pointed out. However, the inclusion of Rajapaksa in the UPFA election campaign provided the UNP more than enough points to attack the alliance, he elaborated.
Ramanayake expressed confidence that the UNP can win a majority in the parliament in the upcoming election, adding that there was no doubt on its victory at the polls. The campaign work is being carried out with full confidence of victory, he also said.
