Prasanna Ranatunga Files Fundamental Rights Petition

Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga filed a Fundamental Rights petition with the Supreme Court against the current investigations on him carried out by the police Financial Crimes Investigations Division.

He requested an interim order to prevent him being arrested by the FCID and demanded Rs 500 million in compensation from the FCID. Furthermore, he requested the Supreme Court to direct the Fort Magistrate Court to stay the court proceedings against him.

The FCID recently informed Fort Magistrate that it had initiated investigations on Prasanna Ranatunga for soliciting and accepting a bribe. Ranatunga's wife was later questioned by the FCID.
