Ten groups, including political parties and independent groups, have handed over nominations to contest the August 17 General Election by yesterday.

Elections Secretariat said that Jana Setha Peramuna has handed over nominations for several districts. Meanwhile, the Ceylon Workers Congress has handed over nominations for Kandy District.

Meanwhile, 85 independent groups have submitted deposits to contest the election, including 9 groups each from Colombo and Digamadulla districts.

Several political parties are expected to hand over nominations for some districts within today. Nominations close at mid-day on July 13.
