Basil To Manage Rajapaksa Election Campaign

Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa is unlikely to contest the Parliamentary election from the UPFA, informed political sources said.

"Instead," they said, " he would manage the campaign of the former President. He will also help several other associates of the former President contesting the election."

Sources from to the Rajapaksa family said the former Economic Development Minister had not applied for UPFA nominations this year.

Rajapaksa was the campaign manager of former President Rajapaksa when the latter contested the Presidential election early this year. Following the former President's defeat, he left for the US and resigned from his positions in the party, accepting responsibility for the former President's defeat.

Soon after his return to Sri Lanka, Rajapalsa was arrested by the Police FCID over alleged misappropriations of Divineguma funds. He was later released on Bail.
