Japan Stun New Zealand In Rugby Sevens At Rio Olympics

Japan caused an upset at the Deodoro Stadium by sealing a 14-12 win over New Zealand, one of the favourites for the Olympics rugby sevens gold.

New Zealand led their opening Pool C game until the final two minutes when Katsuyuki Sakai converted Kameli Soejima’s try to complete the surprise victory.

To add to their woes Sonny Bill Williams, New Zealand’s key player, hobbled off injured with the game at 7-7 and is a doubt for their next game on Tuesday against Kenya, who lost to Great Britain 31-7 in their opening match.
