Gotabaya Rajapaksa to Be Summoned Before Bribery Commission

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former Chief Justice and Attorney General Mohan Peiris are due to be summoned before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in the coming days, accoridng to several media reports.

The move is part of a special investigation currently being conducted by the Commission, with statements to be recorded in connection with the case.

The investigation relates to the alleged unlawful recommendation and issuance of letters to allocate several housing units in a residential complex located in an area close to Colombo to a group of individuals.

The incident dates back to the period when Rajapaksa served as Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.

The probe was initiated following a complaint received by the Bribery Commission. Under the ongoing investigation, statements have already been recorded from several officials who were attached to the National Housing Development Authority at the time.

Based on information revealed during questioning of these officials, the Commission has decided to seek explanations from the former President and the former Attorney General as part of the inquiry.
