Trinity College, Kandy, ended a fifteen-year drought in spectacular fashion this evening at the Sugathadasa Stadium, delivering a masterclass in power rugby to secure the 2026 President’s Trophy. The Kandy school overwhelmed Royal College, Colombo, with a clinical 58-26 victory, marking their first triumph in the prestigious knockout tournament since 2011.

The contest was effectively shaped in the opening forty minutes as Trinity established an early stranglehold on proceedings. Utilizing a high-tempo attacking strategy, they frequently breached the Royal defence to retreat into the halftime interval with a formidable 27-12 lead. This initial onslaught left the Colombo side trailing and struggling to find a rhythmic response under the sustained pressure.

The second half saw no reprieve for the defending spirits of Royal College. Trinity continued to dictate the pace of the game, consistently crossing the try line to extend their advantage beyond reach. Although Royal attempted to mount a late offensive to salvage the scoreline, they were ultimately unable to counter the physical dominance and tactical consistency displayed by the Kandy outfit.
