An Indian national has been arrested in connection with an assault on a man accused of sexually abusing a foreign woman at an Ayurvedic massage centre in Tissamaharama, according to the Southern Province Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police’s Office.

Police said a French national had visited an Ayurvedic massage centre in the Mahasenpura area of Tissamaharama for treatment. She later alleged that the husband of the centre’s owner had sexually assaulted her, a claim she conveyed to her Indian national friend.

Subsequently, when the Indian national visited the massage centre to inquire into the allegation, an argument reportedly broke out, during which the assault took place. The owner of the massage centre later informed the police emergency hotline 119.

Following the complaint, the suspect Indian national was arrested by Tissamaharama Police. The man who was assaulted has been admitted to Debarawewa Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the French national who alleged sexual abuse has been admitted to Hambantota Hospital to be referred to a Judicial Medical Officer for examination.
