The Department of Immigration and Emigration has restored its computer system after a technical malfunction disrupted services yesterday (12).

Deputy Controller and Media Spokesperson Mahesh Karunadasa said that departmental operations, which had been temporarily suspended due to the system failure, have now resumed.

Accordingly, services related to the issuance of passports have been restored. The Department is currently processing regular passports, one-day passport services, and visa applications as usual.

Karunadasa further stated that urgent and essential issuances are being prioritised, while operations across the Department’s branch network have also returned to normal.

The disruption occurred following a sudden technical fault in the Department’s computer data system, resulting in a breakdown of services across all branches.

In light of the outage, the Department had earlier requested the public to postpone non-urgent visits to obtain passports until next week.

The spokesperson noted that a special technical committee was appointed to address the issue promptly. He confirmed that the malfunction has now been rectified and all departmental functions are operating under normal conditions.
