Minister Upali Pannilage has been appointed to the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) investigating the release of 323 containers from the Colombo Port without mandatory physical inspection.

Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne informed Parliament today (18) that the appointment was made in terms of Standing Order 106.

Pannilage, who serves as Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Anura Karunathilaka.

The PSC has been mandated to examine the circumstances under which the 323 containers were released without the required physical examination, report its findings to Parliament, and make recommendations.

The committee is chaired by Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara.
