The CCTV Division of the Sri Lanka Police has received two upgraded vans equipped with advanced camera systems, donated under the initiative of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya.

The handover ceremony was held at Police Headquarters on 27 February, with senior officers in attendance. The CCTV Division, established on 29 December 2010, initially operated two camera-fitted vans for field duties. In a move to strengthen operational capacity, one of the vehicles was previously upgraded with modern camera technology by Prima. Both vans have now undergone further technological enhancements before being formally handed over to the Division.

Police said the total cost of upgrading the two vehicles amounted to Rs. 9,794,000.

The upgraded vans are expected to support a broad range of operational duties, including traffic management, surveillance activities, security for local and foreign dignitaries, special security operations, monitoring of religious and cultural events, national and international sporting fixtures, traffic data collection, and the observation of protests and public disturbances.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Thushara Gamlath, Director of the Police CCTV Division Senior Superintendent of Police Malin Perera, and Officer-in-Charge of the Division Chief Inspector I. M. N. L. B. Ekanayake were among the officers present at the ceremony, along with several other police personnel.
