Island rankers announced for 2025 A/L examination

The Department of Examinations has released the names of students who secured the highest ranks in the 2025 General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Examination across all subject streams, alongside key performance indicators from this year’s results.

In the Biological Science stream, Dilan Sanjana of Royal College, Colombo secured first place, followed by Krishan Sasidu Namthara of Taxila Central College, Horana in second place and Darshana Konesh of Sri Shanmuga Hindu Ladies’ College, Trincomalee in third place.

In the Physical Science stream, Devendan Thirukumaran of Kilinochchi Maha Vidyalaya ranked first, with Tharusha Gimhana Gamlath of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala in second place and Vinura Prasad de Mel of Sri Sumangala Boys’ College, Panadura in third place.

In the Commerce stream, Subaideen Mohamed Fardhan of Kattankudy Central College secured first place, followed by Senadi Dihasna Sumanasekara of Musaeus College, Colombo and Dileepa Sandaras Karunaratne of Bandaranayake College, Gampaha in second and third places respectively.

In the Arts stream, Achintha Mihiranga Rathnayake of Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala secured first place, while Aaliyah Zainab of Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo and Methusari Dinethya Ranatunga of Musaeus College, Colombo placed second and third respectively.

In the Engineering Technology stream, Heshan Anujaya Wanigasooriya of Bandaranayake College, Gampaha ranked first, followed by Sithija Dulan Bandara of Vijayaba National School, Mahawa and Riween Winsara of C.W.W. Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya, Matugama in second and third places respectively.

Commissioner General of Examinations A.K.S. Indika Kumari Liyanage stated that 62.64% of candidates who sat for the 2025 Advanced Level Examination have qualified for university entrance.

The results were released yesterday (31). A total of 281,810 candidates sat for the examination, of whom 176,527 qualified for university admission.

The Department of Examinations further stated that the results of 111 candidates have been withheld.

Among school candidates, 7,477 students — accounting for 3.38% of the total number of school applicants — obtained ‘A’ grades in all subjects. In addition, 823 private candidates also secured ‘A’ passes across all subjects.
