The island-wide strike launched by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) was temporarily concluded from 8.00 a.m. today (06).

The trade union had initiated the strike over several demands, including concerns regarding the alleged politicisation of the doctors’ transfer process.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa said the decision to suspend the strike was taken following an opportunity to hold discussions with Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa on 9 April, upon his return to the country from an overseas visit.

He noted that the temporary suspension would remain in effect pending the outcome of the scheduled discussions.
