Nine Chinese nationals were arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, early today (16) while allegedly attempting to enter Sri Lanka to engage in cybercrime-related activities.

Airport Customs officials also seized a stock of electronic communication equipment worth Rs. 24.02 million, according to Ada Derana.

The group had arrived at BIA at 12.25 a.m. from Kunming, China, on China Eastern Airlines flight MU-6912.

Officials found 383 used mobile phones, 101 tablet computers, and six Wi-Fi routers in their possession. The items had allegedly been concealed by taping them to their bodies and hiding them inside their clothing.

The suspects were being detained by Airport Customs for further investigations.
