Police in Hatton have sought public assistance to identify and arrest a suspect who attempted to break into two automated teller machines (ATMs) at a private bank in the town.
According to the police, the suspect had arrived at the bank branch in the early hours of yesterday (4) and attempted to dismantle two ATM machines to steal cash. However, the attempt was unsuccessful, and the individual fled the scene.
The bank management has lodged a complaint with the Hatton Police and submitted relevant CCTV footage and images showing the suspect attempting to tamper with the machines.
Police said investigations are ongoing and urged anyone with information on the suspect to contact the Criminal Investigation Division of the Hatton Police.
Officer-in-Charge of the Hatton Police Crimes Division, Inspector Nishantha Silva, appealed to the public to assist in identifying the individual.
