Police seek suspect who drove gunmen in Akuregoda double murder case

Police seek public assistance to locate a suspect believed to have driven the vehicle used by gunmen involved in the shooting and killing of an attorney-at-law and his wife near the Akuregoda Army Camp in Thalangama.

Police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Kalu Arachchilage Niluksha Weerasinghe, a resident of Paragoda, Imaduwa.

The attorney-at-law and his wife were shot dead on 16 February near the Akuregoda Army Headquarters by two unidentified gunmen who arrived in a car and opened fire using T-56 assault rifles and pistols before fleeing the scene.

According to preliminary investigations, police have uncovered information indicating that the suspect had allegedly driven the vehicle used by the gunmen.

Police requested anyone with information regarding the suspect to contact the Officer-in-Charge of the Western Province South Crimes Division on 071 859 6065.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Western Province South Crimes Division.
