People’s Bank Sri Lanka has expanded its Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) business volume to Rs. 20.8 billion in 2025, further strengthening its support for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and long-term growth.
The state-owned commercial bank said MSMEs remained a key driver of the national economy through employment generation, entrepreneurship, regional development, and income distribution.
According to the bank, its MSME customer base grew by 15.2% during the year, while several lending schemes recorded strong demand from entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Among them, the ‘Green Power Loan’ scheme granted facilities amounting to Rs. 6.9 billion, supporting renewable energy and sustainability initiatives, while the ‘People’s Power Loan’ scheme recorded a 74.6% growth within a year of its launch.
People’s Bank stated that its MSME development strategy aligns with the Government’s national development agenda and focuses on supporting businesses throughout their lifecycle, from start-ups and micro enterprises to established businesses seeking expansion.
The bank said financial assistance was directed towards sectors including agriculture and agribusiness, manufacturing, renewable energy, trade and services, tourism, and related industries.
A significant number of beneficiaries included start-ups, youth entrepreneurs, micro enterprises, and women-led businesses. The bank noted that women entrepreneurs were also supported through dedicated refinance schemes and financial literacy programmes.
People’s Bank currently offers a range of MSME financing facilities, including working capital loans, term loans, trade finance facilities, overdrafts, and sector-specific lending schemes.
Among the MSME loan schemes currently offered by the bank are the Small and Medium Enterprises Development (SMED) Scheme, Business Power Loan Scheme, Solar Power Generation Loan Scheme, Green Power Loan, People’s SPARK Loan Scheme, NCGIL Loan Scheme, People’s Power Loan Scheme, Vanitha Saviya Loan Scheme, Aswenna Loan Scheme, and the Pledge Loan Scheme.
The bank said customers seeking MSME financing facilities could obtain assistance through its island-wide branch network, where branch managers and credit officers provide guidance on financing options, eligibility requirements, and the application process.
