Popular actress Anusha Damayanthi voiced strong support for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and its leadership during a party rally held in Panadura, describing Namal Rajapaksa as the country’s “future President”.
Addressing party supporters, Damayanthi praised the turnout at the rally, saying it was “beautiful to see” the strength of the movement being rebuilt.
She drew parallels between the current political climate and previous election periods, stating that the same “giant strength” that stood behind former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2005 and 2010 is now rallying behind Namal Rajapaksa.
Damayanthi further claimed that the public had once again demonstrated that the “blood right” to rebuild the country, along with a genuine “feeling for the nation”, rests with the Rajapaksa family.
Recognising Namal Rajapaksa as the “future President”, she urged him to take leadership for the sake of future generations.
She also called for the country’s development journey to resume from the point at which it had allegedly been left by Mahinda Rajapaksa, whom she described as a “lion-like leader” who built the nation’s armed forces.
Concluding her speech, Damayanthi appealed to the SLPP’s young leader to “write the remaining chapters of the Mahavamsa”, urging him to leave a legacy “written in golden letters” while staying connected to the “breath of the people”.
