The Sri Lanka Association of Divisional Secretaries and Assistant Divisional Secretaries announced that its members will refrain from participating in any official meetings held on Mondays, with effect from tomorrow (8 June).
Association President R. Senthil said the decision to boycott Monday meetings was taken after repeated violations of the circular and was aimed at ensuring that time allocated for public service is protected.
The decision applies to both physical and virtual meetings and was taken in response to what the association described as the continued disregard of regulations governing the conduct of official meetings on Mondays.
In a statement, the association said that ministries, state institutions, and political authorities frequently schedule meetings on Mondays, causing significant disruption to public services and the routine administrative functions of Divisional Secretariats.
The association noted that Public Administration Circular No. 27/2023 designates Mondays as “Public Day” and requires Divisional Secretaries to remain at their offices to hear and address public grievances. The circular also stipulates that official meetings should not be held on that day.
Accordingly, members of the association will not attend any official meetings scheduled on Mondays until further notice.
