Three Sri Lankan nationals were among seven people arrested in Kuwait in connection with separate drug trafficking cases involving narcotics and psychotropic substances, according to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior.
The suspects, who also include two Kuwaiti citizens, one Indian national and another foreign national, were taken into custody during security operations targeting drug-related offences, foreign media reported.
Authorities said the suspects were found in possession of approximately 2.55 kilograms of hashish, 150 grams of heroin and 20 grams of methamphetamine. Equipment allegedly used for the preparation and packaging of illegal drugs was also recovered.
In addition, officers seized 6,350 Lyrica capsules, 150 Xanax tablets, 50 Methadol tablets, four precision weighing scales and quantities of empty nylon bags believed to have been used in drug distribution activities.
The Ministry of Interior stated that one of the suspects is also facing an additional charge of resisting arrest.
All seven suspects, including the three Sri Lankans, have been referred to the relevant authorities along with the seized drugs and equipment for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts to combat drug trafficking and curb the spread of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
The Ministry said security agencies would continue pursuing traffickers, dealers and drug users and would take strict legal action against anyone found to be involved in the trafficking, promotion, possession or distribution of illegal drugs and psychotropic substances.
