Former Atamasthanadhipathi Pallegama Hemarathana Thera was ordered by the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday (12) to provide a blood sample for a DNA test at the Government Analyst’s Department on June 16.

Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Siyapath Sasindu Wickramaratne also directed the Government Analyst to submit the DNA examination report to the court following the collection and analysis of the blood sample.

The order was issued after the Nittambuwa Police informed the court through a further report that a blood sample from the suspect was required for comparison with DNA alleles detected on clothing belonging to the minor involved in the case.

Police requested the court to direct the suspect to provide the sample to the Government Analyst and further sought an order requiring the analyst to submit the findings of the DNA examination to court.

Considering the submissions made by the police, the Chief Magistrate directed Ven. Hemarathana Thera to appear at the Government Analyst’s Department on June 16 and provide a blood sample for the DNA test.

The court also instructed the Government Analyst to submit the report of the DNA examination once the analysis is completed.
