Five suspects aged 16 and 17 have been arrested by Malabe Police over the assault of a young man following a dispute in a queue near a Poson dansala in Malabe.

Police launched an investigation after a video showing the victim being assaulted with helmets and by kicking and punching him circulated widely on social media.

Investigators found that the incident stemmed from an argument at a rice dansala after the victim, who was waiting in the queue, asked two individuals attempting to cut in line to move to the back.

The five suspects, all aged 16 and 17 and residents of Pattiyawatta Road in Kothalawala, were subsequently arrested.

They were due to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court today (1), while Malabe Police are continuing investigations to identify and arrest others allegedly involved in the assault.
