Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa has called for an immediate investigation into whether President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s son was recruited to the former Mihin Lanka through a proper recruitment process.
Addressing a media briefing, Weerawansa said the President, who frequently speaks about corruption involving others, should also disclose details relating to appointments involving members of his own family.
Recalling allegations previously made by Anura Kumara Dissanayake against political rivals, Weerawansa questioned the circumstances under which the President’s son had joined Mihin Lanka.
“Back then, Anura Dissanayake said these appointments were given to people on Namal Rajapaksa’s list. So how did his own son get into Mihin Lanka? Was there an examination? Was merit considered? Doesn’t the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption see these matters?” he asked.
Weerawansa further claimed that when Mihin Lanka was closed during the Yahapalana administration, many qualified employees lost their jobs, while only a small number of staff, including the President’s son, were absorbed into SriLankan Airlines.
He questioned why, despite other employees having stronger qualifications, the President’s son had allegedly been given the opportunity to join the national carrier.
The former minister also accused the Government of targeting opposition politicians while claiming that the law applies equally to everyone, alleging that such actions were intended to divert attention from the administration’s shortcomings.
