At least 25 people, including prison officers, were killed in the violent unrest that erupted at Negombo Prison on Monday (6), Police said.
Nearly 100 people were also reported injured in the incident.
Authorities have deployed the Sri Lanka Police, the Police Special Task Force (STF), as well as Army and Air Force personnel to bring the situation under control. Security has been significantly reinforced as efforts continue to restore order inside the prison.
