The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (08) directed the Criminal Investigation Department to report on the progress of investigations into the controversial transfer of US$2.5 million in government funds from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to a fraudulent bank account during the repayment of a Treasury loan instalment. The case has been fixed for August 5.

The order was issued by Magistrate Pasan Amarasena when the matter was taken up before the court.

During the hearing, CID officers informed the court that hard drives containing 16 terabytes of computer data recovered in connection with the investigation had been forwarded to the University of Colombo for further forensic analysis.

The CID told the court that the university’s report has not yet been received.

Investigators further informed the court that the Government Analyst’s reports relating to the incident are also still pending.
