Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Councillor Sheela Kannangara said Namal Rajapaksa would “definitely” become the President of Sri Lanka in 2029, claiming that he would bring prosperity and a strong economy to the country.
Speaking at a media briefing, Kannangara said Rajapaksa was the son of a leader who had brought development and prosperity to rural communities, referring to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“When his father was President, we saw the situation in the villages. Every household had a motorcycle. Many households had a three-wheeler or some other vehicle,” she said.
“I feel very sad about the situation today. The son of a father who brought development and prosperity to our villages is preparing to come to power in 2029. Therefore, we know for certain that Namal Rajapaksa will definitely become President in 2029,” Kannangara said.
She expressed confidence that the country would achieve greater prosperity and a stronger economy under a future Namal Rajapaksa presidency.
“Once he becomes President, all Sri Lankans will benefit, and the country will achieve prosperity and a strong economy. We, as women, are confident of that. It will definitely happen. Namal will bloom. He is already rising,” she added.
