Arrest Warrants Issued for Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara, MP Jagath Manuwarna

The Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday (17) issued arrest warrants against six individuals, including Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara and MP Jagath Manuwarna, after they failed to appear before court in connection with a case over an alleged unlawful protest.

The six accused, who are currently out on bail, had failed to appear before court when the case was taken up.

Accordingly, arrest warrants were issued for Deputy Minister Gunasekara, MP Manuwarna, Roshan Ali Dhaniz Ali, Amal Salinda alias “Army Amila”, Udayanga Kumara, and Ven. Koswatte Mahanama Thero.

Additional Magistrate Kingsley Hettiarachchi also issued notices on their bail sureties and postponed the case until 4 December 2026.

Meanwhile, 13 accused appeared before court, including former Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) Convener Wasantha Mudalige, Ruhuna University Students’ Union Convener Anthony Weranga Pushpika de Silva, Jehan Appuhamy, and Ven. Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thero.

The Fort Police have filed charges against 15 accused, including Mudalige, Weranga Pushpika de Silva, Roshan Ali Dhaniz Ali, Amal Salinda alias “Army Amila”, Appuhamy, Manuwarna, Ven. Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thero, and Ven. Koswatte Mahanama Thero.

The accused face charges over allegedly participating in a protest in violation of a court order, being members of an unlawful assembly, and using criminal force against police officers.
