Sri Lanka Police yesterday (17) suspended a police constable who allegedly sat on the lap of a female police constable at the Makalugaswewa Police Station while under the influence of alcohol.
The constable had been deployed for duty at a musical concert held at the Dambulla Gamudawa Stadium on 15 July and had later returned to the Makalugaswewa Police Station to resume his duties.
According to reports, upon seeing the female constable seated on a chair at the police station, he had allegedly sat on her lap.
Following the incident, the female constable lodged a complaint with the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in charge of the area through the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the police station.
A subsequent investigation found that the constable had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Accordingly, the constable was suspended from service following an inquiry into the alleged harassment of the female officer and his conduct while intoxicated during duty hours.
