The Supreme Court has dismissed a Fundamental Rights petition seeking to invalidate circulars that permit individuals to legally change their gender, without granting leave to proceed.

Former Presidents Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe, incumbent President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and several others had been named as respondents in the petition.

The Fundamental Rights petition had been filed by Shantha Jayatilaka, a retired disabled Warrant Officer of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

Accordingly, the Supreme Court decided to dismiss the petition without proceeding to a hearing.
