BBC Sinhala has been summoned to appear before Parliament’s Committee on Privileges at 2 p.m. on Thursday (23) over an article published by its Sinhala service.

The summons relates to a report concerning comments made by National People’s Power (NPP) MP Lakmali Hemachandra, in which she was reported to have reprimanded the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) over its submissions to court in a child abuse case involving former Atamasthanadhipathi Pallegama Hemarathana Thera.

The article sparked public backlash against the MP, who denied making the allegation attributed to her.
