Former MP Shantha Bandara has claimed that there is no provable evidence against his son in connection with the alleged robbery of money from a Chinese national.
He made the remarks to the media outside court after his son, Anuda Janadith Bandara, and four other suspects were released on bail.
Bandara alleged that a large amount of false information had been circulated about his son on social media and through other media outlets over the past several days, claiming that his son had been targeted because of his own involvement in active politics.
He said it was positive that the Police had conducted an extensive investigation into the incident, adding that anyone found to have committed an offence should face punishment.
Bandara further said he had strong faith in the judiciary and believed that the truth would ultimately prevail.
His son and four other suspects were arrested on 21 July in connection with the alleged robbery of Rs. 20 million from a Chinese national.
