A special meeting will be held tomorrow (5 August) to determine the next course of action regarding the Grade Five Scholarship Examination and the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in light of the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

Officials from the Department of Meteorology, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and the Department of Examinations are scheduled to attend the meeting, where they will assess the potential impact of the current weather on the conduct of the examinations.

Director General of the Department of Meteorology, Ajith Wijemanna, said that although August is typically a month of relatively low rainfall, this year’s active monsoon conditions have brought heavy showers to many parts of the country.

He added that rainfall is expected to gradually decrease after 6, 7 and 8 August, and weather conditions are likely to improve significantly by the time the examinations commence after 10 August.

A decision on any measures relating to the examinations and the prevailing weather conditions is expected to be announced following the special meeting.
