Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rohan Olugala has defended the operation carried out in Malaysia to arrest organised crime figure Kanjipani Imran, rejecting claims that the mission had failed.
Responding to a question from journalists at a special media briefing of the “Ratama Ekata” national operation yesterday (13), Olugala said the operation to apprehend Kanjipani Imran was “not a failure by any means” and described it as a successful mission.
He said operations conducted in a foreign country must be carried out in accordance with that country’s laws and with a proper understanding of its geographical and operational environment.
“When we are in our own country, we generally know our own areas very well. But when we go to another area, we may not have the same level of understanding. Likewise, when conducting an operation in another country, we have to comply with that country’s laws and understand the environment in which we are operating,” Olugala said.
“If you want to learn to swim, you have to get into the water. Therefore, I do not consider this a failed operation. It was a successful operation,” he added.
