The Podcasters’ Association of Sri Lanka hosted Exploring the New Media Landscape, a discussion on Sri Lanka’s changing media and digital content landscape, on 20 August at the Granbell Hotel in Colombo.
The discussion, held under the theme Navigating Sri Lanka’s Evolving Media Landscape: Challenges, Opportunities, and Sustainable Creator Growth, focused on the opportunities and challenges emerging as podcasts, digital platforms, and other forms of new media continue to develop in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Kaushalya Ariyarathne, Deputy Minister of Mass Media, delivered the keynote address. The panel featured Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Health and Mass Media; Dr. Sunil Abeyratne, Chair of LAWASIA IT Law; Udara Dharmasena, Regional VP of Roar AdX; and Lahiru Mudalige, Founder and CEO of Hari TV. Bruno Diwakara, Founder of SLVLOG and a founding member of the Podcasters’ Association of Sri Lanka, set the tone for the discussion, which was moderated by Namini Panditha, President of the Association.
Globally, podcasting is becoming an increasingly important part of the changing media landscape, with growing audiences, greater professionalisation, and an increasing overlap between audio, video, and creator-led content. These shifts are also creating new opportunities for creators, while raising questions around sustainability, credibility, professional standards, and how the sector develops.
Founded in 2026, the Podcasters’ Association of Sri Lanka works towards the development of podcasting and the wider creator ecosystem in the country, with a focus on the safety and professional development of podcasters, as well as creating opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The Association aims to support a stronger and more sustainable environment for podcasting in Sri Lanka as the country’s media landscape continues to evolve.
