The Department of Prisons has permitted Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who is in remand custody, to receive meals brought from home.

Rajapaksa was arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes in connection with the purchase of Airbus aircraft and was remanded until September 18 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court last Friday.

The Prisons Department Spokesman said Rajapaksa is currently being held at the Colombo Remand Prison, where special security arrangements have been introduced around his ward.

He is also permitted to receive three visitors a day, the Spokesman added.

Meanwhile, Rajapaksa’s mother, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, and Parliamentarian Rohitha Abeygunawardena visited the Welikada Prison premises on Monday (7).
