Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika Sri Ragala has ordered that the Attorney General’s position be conveyed to court regarding a request by Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera to plead guilty to a charge of insulting Islam.
When the case was taken up yesterday (16 September), Gnanasara Thera informed the court that he was prepared to plead guilty and conclude the case through a shortened procedure.
He has been charged over allegations that he forcibly entered a media briefing attended by Buddhist monks and Islamic clerics at the Nippon Hotel in Slave Island in 2014 and insulted Islam.
