The third International Conference on Plastics, Innovations and Environmental Sustainability (ICPIES 2026), jointly organised by the Open University of Sri Lanka and the University of Moratuwa, will be held on 30 September and 1 October at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo.
The conference, themed “Eco-Friendly Innovations for Ecosystem Stability and Social Well-being,” will be held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, bringing together researchers, policymakers, industry representatives and other stakeholders.
The conference will focus on seven key areas, including microplastics in terrestrial and marine ecosystems, microplastics-related policies and governance, artificial intelligence-based environmental monitoring and community participation in creating a plastic-free society.
The event aims to facilitate the exchange of new research findings and emerging trends in plastics science and sustainable solutions while strengthening circular economy approaches.
According to the organisers, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya is expected to attend as the chief guest.
The conference will be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing researchers to participate both physically and virtually. Selected research papers will be published in an indexed journal, while awards will be presented for the best research paper in each category.
General registration was scheduled to take place from 21 to 25 September, with registration for online research paper presenters also closing on 25 September.
