Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has returned to Sri Lanka after being summoned by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to give a statement.
She reportedly arrived from Malaysia on flight MH 179.
Rajapaksa had filed an anticipatory bail application seeking an order preventing her arrest upon returning to Sri Lanka, stating that she had travelled overseas for medical treatment.
Maligakanda Magistrate Janitha Perera directed that the application be called on 6 October.
The FCID had instructed Rajapaksa to appear and provide a statement in connection with an investigation into a Siriliya Saviya account. She left for Singapore through Bandaranaike International Airport on 18 September after receiving the summons.
Criminal Investigation Department officers had also notified her to appear before the FCID while she was preparing to depart from the airport.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Media Secretary, Attorney Manoj Gamage, previously said she had travelled to Singapore for treatment for an eye condition. He said she was prepared to appear before the FCID and give a statement upon returning to Sri Lanka after completing her treatment.
