Sri Lanka is set to fully digitize its postal services by 2027 as the Department of Posts moves to modernize its operations.
Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara announced that the initiative aims to transform the country’s postal service, which has a history spanning more than two centuries.
The department also plans to introduce electric motorcycles and three wheelers to its fleet next year to improve mail transportation and delivery.
The announcement comes as World Post Day is observed today under the theme “One Post, Infinite Possibilities.”
Sri Lanka’s postal history dates back to 1798, while the country’s first postage stamp, featuring Queen Victoria and valued at six pence, was issued on April 1, 1857.
