She was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over allegations that she had paid a bribe to a court office assistant at the Colombo High Court to influence a judge to impose a suspended prison sentence on her husband.
Accordingly, Chinari Lakmanthi Hettiarachchi, the wife of the former Deputy Minister, and Charith, an office assistant at the Colombo High Court, were ordered to be further remanded.
Meanwhile, the third suspect, the Registrar of the Minuwangoda Magistrate’s Court, was released on two personal sureties of Rs. 1 million each.
The orders were issued after the Magistrate considered submissions made by CIABOC when the three suspects were produced before the court.
