Ududumbara Police arrested seven school students on the afternoon of 6 November after a video circulating on social media showed a child throwing stones at an elephant in the Yahangala Reserve.
Police investigated the incident after receiving a report through the 119 emergency hotline. The students, aged 15 to 17, were arrested in connection with alleged unauthorised entry into the reserve and cruelty to the elephant. All seven attend school in the area.
Police called the students’ parents to the station and briefed them on the allegations. The students were released after receiving a warning.
