Parliamentary Climate Caucus Re-established with New Co-Chairs

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and MP L.M. Abeywickrama were elected as Co-Chairs of the Caucus on Climate during its first meeting in the Tenth Parliament, held on 8 January 2025.

The meeting aimed to re-establish the Climate Caucus and also saw the election of Deputy Co-Chairs, MP Nalin Bandara from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and MP Asitha Niroshana Egoda Vithana from the Jathika Jana Balawegaya (JJB).

Additionally, MP Rohini Kumari Wijerathna from the SJB and MP Anushka Thilakarathne, Attorney-at-Law, from the JJB were chosen as Co-Conveners of the Caucus.

Addressing the meeting, the Co-Chairs highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change, emphasising its impact on Sri Lanka and the importance of formulating actionable plans to mitigate its effects.
