The National People’s Power (NPP) did not take over the government to give up easily, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said in Galgamuwa yesterday, 1 February.

Addressing a public meeting, Dissanayake stated:

“The defeated groups are trying to regain power. But let me tell you, as long as the people are with us, no one can do that. We did not come into government to surrender easily, as the defeated groups seem to be dreaming.”

Speaking on concerns over ongoing high-profile cases, the President urged the public not to worry.

“I do not interfere with the judiciary. There is a legal process that must be followed. Our role is to ensure a system free from political influence so that cases and investigations proceed smoothly and fairly. There is no need to panic when certain individuals are arrested, remanded, or granted bail,” he said.

The President also stated that February would be a positive month for the public.

“However, some individuals will not feel the same way, as investigations into corruption and crimes committed by certain parties are ongoing. Behind every unsolved murder, there is a politician. These investigations will continue unhindered,” he added.
