Te Fort Magistrate’s Court has ordered the closure of the Miracle Colombo City Hostel in Colombo 03 following the sudden death of a 24-year-old British woman and the hospitalisation of a German couple who shared the same room.

The Fort Magistrate’s Court issued the directive today (3) after the Kollupitiya Police submitted an investigative report on the incident. The closure will remain in effect until the Government Analyst’s Department completes its assessment to determine whether the hostel meets safety standards.

The tragedy unfolded on Sunday (2) when three foreign nationals staying at the hostel fell seriously ill. The British woman was pronounced dead, while the German couple continues to receive treatment in hospital. Police have formally informed the hostel management of the court’s order as investigations continue.
