Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Gayantha Karunathilaka stated that the party’s management and working committees have been granted authority to explore common ground for a potential alliance with the United National Party (UNP).

Speaking at a media briefing, Karunathilaka said, “A committee led by Ranjith Madduma Bandara has already met with the UNP for discussions on four occasions. The primary objective is to determine whether a long-term programme can be established.”

He added that discussions also covered the possibility of cooperation in local government elections. Following these talks, the committee will consult SJB leader Sajith Premadasa and other party members before making further decisions.

Karunathilaka emphasised that SJB is not limiting discussions to the UNP but is also open to engaging with other parties. He expressed optimism about the ongoing negotiations with the UNP, stating that progress has been positive.
