The new formula for fuel distributors will offer greater benefits than the previous 3% discount, according to Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna.

As part of this change, the CPC has decided to abolish the 3% discount previously given to fuel distributors and replace it with a revised benefit structure.

In response, the Fuel Distributors’ Association announced yesterday (28) that its members would stop ordering fuel from today (01) in protest of the decision.

However, the CPC has assured that this move will not lead to a fuel crisis in the country.

Chairman Rajakaruna explained that under the new system, fuel distributors handling 25 loads would receive Rs. 1,103,850, an increase from the previous structure.

“The first 15 loads are paid 6.96, the next 15 loads are paid 6.62. Now, many distributors handle about 25 loads, earning nearly Rs. 1 million. They claim this is insufficient after paying salaries,” he stated.

“With the new formula, those handling 25 loads will be paid 6.69, increasing their earnings to Rs. 1,103,850,” he added.
